For those 65 to 85 years old who get very little sleep (not enough), is there a medication without side effects that can improve sleep?

For a long time I have slept very little. I thought it would improve with retirement but 4 years later, no improvement. I don't have a very stressful lifestyle, I eat well and my alcohol consumption (only red wine) is probably higher than average (2 bottles per week). My doctor is not too keen on prescribing me a sleeping pill...

Unfortunately, there is no medication that improves sleep without causing side effects. It should also be noted that sleeping pills and various sleep aids almost all generate a tolerance, which means that after a few days or weeks, the dose must be increased for many people in order to maintain the same effect.

It is very difficult to change the quality of sleep after several problematic years, but anything is possible.

Reducing your alcohol intake may help. Exercise moderately after dinner. Eat smaller meals at dinner. Be physically active during the day. Don't nap during the day. These are some of the good tips I could give you.
