Is it possible to be allergic to almonds only when they are raw?

36-year-old womana year ago
I ate raw almonds yesterday and had a reaction (swollen nose, difficulty swallowing, tingling eyes, red eyes, sore throat), whereas the day before I ate roasted almonds and had no reaction.

Hello ma'am,
I have found a few studies that suggest that certain cooking methods may reduce the allergenic potential of a food but this has not been proven in practice.
In general, cooking a food will not prevent it from causing an allergy.
That being said, if this is the first and only time it has happened, it is difficult to draw conclusions.
Since it is likely that you have consumed other foods, I recommend keeping a diary of what you consume for the next few weeks.
I hope that I have been helpful to you and I am available if you have any further questions
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
