A doctor from lurgence in chicoutimi has sent a paper to pneumo so that she can see a pneumologist to do some tests etc to see if she needs a machine etc but we all agree that everything takes time so in the meantime what can my mother do to improve her sleep and her quality of life? Thanks :). Please note that she hasn't smoked for a year now but she's at like 220 lbs because of that!

Good morning, ma'am,
As you mentioned, being overweight can be an important risk factor for sleep apnea. Weight loss through a balanced diet and moderate intensity exercise for 30 minutes a day (active walking, yoga, etc) are important to this goal. A nutritionist and physiotherapist can help develop a realistic plan for her, and most group insurances cover this type of service.
Other than that, many references indicate that certain medications or substances could make the problem worse. I recommend that you talk to your pharmacist about this.
I hope that I have been helpful to you and I remain available if you have any further questions
