I talked to my doctor about it once, but it didn't worry him.

Hello Ma'am,
It depends on what you mean by "little effort."
And are you relatively fit?

I am far from overweight and do not play any sports on a regular basis.
In the past I played my sport several hours a day.
At work, I am on my feet all day and my knees become sore after a few hours.

Thank you!
It's possible that it's simply because you don't play sports on a regular basis anymore. In other words, you're a little less fit than you used to be.
Standing in a fixed position for several hours a day can cause pain, even in the fittest of people.
In my opinion, the first thing to do would be to get back to physical activity to strengthen the muscles that support those joints.
I highly recommend walking, first, and then running. If needed, consult a physio to receive exercises targeting the symptoms you are currently experiencing.
Happy day,
