Are there any interactions or special instructions with my medications (Xarelto, Zoloft, Ativan, newly prescribed Seroquel)?

Hello Mrs,
There are a few things you should know about your treatments. Your family pharmacist systematically analyzes your medications before giving you the prescribed medication. He or she will have first verified that your kidneys can properly eliminate the medication (unlikely to be a problem at your age) with the help of blood tests prescribed by your doctor. As for interactions, nothing seems to be a problem either, which is why he probably didn't discuss the subject with you
As for precautions, your family pharmacist probably told you to avoid stomach irritants (coffee, alcohol, meals that are too fatty, too heavy or too spicy) to reduce the risk of irritation. Xarelto "clears" your blood and Zoloft can also be said to do this a little bit, so we'll try to avoid having your stomach irritated too much so that it doesn't bleed. We can also recall the general precautions of Xarelto: apply 10 minutes of pressure on a minor bleed (e.g.: cut), go to the emergency room if uncontrolled bleeding (e.g.: nose, wound), consult your doctor if blood is found in the stool or urine, if there is strong unexplained pain in the belly, or if the bruises keep getting bigger. Of course, Xarelto should be taken with a meal to be most effective.
In addition, caution should be exercised when taking Ativan and Seroquel at the same time, as the effects of the drugs on drowsiness are additive. You should therefore limit your alcohol consumption and be particularly careful when driving or doing tasks that require greater concentration
Finally, your family pharmacist will monitor the effectiveness of Zoloft with you. If you take your medication regularly, every day, the onset of effectiveness should be felt in as little as two weeks. The goal is to achieve remission, that is, complete disappearance of the symptoms of depression and anxiety, in about 6 to 8 weeks. These are general guidelines, so they may not apply to you. I invite you to discuss this with your pharmacist and family doctor so that they can individualize their recommendations to your situation.
I hope that I have answered your questions clearly,
Stéphane Villeneuve, pharmacist
