Weight loss and breastfeeding

29-year-old woman5 years ago
I would like to know if I can use a weight loss product. I only breastfeed my baby at night. Around 2:30-3:00 am and around 5:30-6:00 am.

Hello. There are many products available on the market claiming to help with weight loss. Most of them are 'appetite suppressants' (like a supplement that expands in the stomach to make you feel full) and/or contain caffeine derivatives (which make you feel like you are losing weight when in fact they only work by increasing diuresis, urination)
Since you are breastfeeding, it would be unwise to suggest any of these products at this time. Breastfeeding is very demanding on the body and requires many more resources and energy than if you were not breastfeeding. Also, safety studies of these products in breastfeeding women are not well developed
That being said, you should know that there is no magic product that will help you lose weight. You need to eat a healthy diet and be physically active. A nutrition professional can help you establish a balanced diet while breastfeeding.
