I was prescribed azythromycin to prevent an infection following dental surgery. I took the 1st dose (500 mg) last night, but threw up about 75 minutes later. Do I take my 250 mg tonight as scheduled or should I take it earlier?

As a general rule, a drug ingested at least 1 hour before vomiting is considered to have had time to be absorbed, at least in part.

The same rule applies to an antibiotic, so you should not take a second dose after vomiting in this case. You should follow the dosing regimen as if you had not vomited, i.e. take the second dose at the scheduled time.

Some medications, including antibiotics, tend to cause heartache and sometimes even vomiting. It is wise to think that if this happens again, you may want to consider taking Gravol before taking the medication. Talk to your pharmacist to find out with you the right dose and the best time to take it.
