Hello ! I would like to know if it is advisable to give vitamin D to an 18 month old child during the winter season?

Hello and thank you for your question!
The recommended dietary allowance for vitamin D for children 1 to 3 years old is 600 units per day.
This amount can easily be absorbed from the diet since 1 cup (250ml) of cow's milk contains 100 units of vitamin D. Soy milks probably contain it as well, as do some fortified orange juices. Also note that vitamin D is found in egg yolks, beef, pork and fish. not to mention the amount generated when we go outside to play (although I understand that it is much less than during the summer).
So unless your child doesn't drink milk, I don't think it's necessary to supplement specifically with vitamin D.
