Will stopping taking melatonin help my gut issues balance out?

53-year-old womana year ago
I have been taking melatonin and Concerta, and my weight loss has been a huge impact. I think the impact of the melatonin on my gut serotonin and the added impact of the dopamine/norepinephrine changes have further whacked my serotonin response. I am not on antidepressants though I have been on them for 20 years. Once I started Concerta ER 18 mg, I didn't need them anymore. I can't digest anything and I have severe morning nausea. Food sensitivities are extra aggravated. I need to sleep, however. If I stop the melatonin, do you think the serotinin will reset? I would rather keep the Concerta, as I am focused and functional and emotionally balanced for the first time, ever. LOL I am 52 and female, with a Masters and professional career.

Hello Miss, I am sorry to read about your troubles!
There is no way of knowing if stopping the melatonin will relieve some of your symptoms. With that said long term use of melatonin is not usually recommended and if you are open to it, you could stop it and assess the effects of this after about 2 weeks.
If your symptoms persist after that time, it would be best to consult a doctor.
Kind regards,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist.
