Why would a physician prescribe a brand name Synthroid instead of a generic levothyroxine?

Hi,
The physicians really often prescribe medications by their brand name. Normally, the pharmacist is always autorized to switch to a generic form.
Unfortunately, there is no generic formulation of Synthroid. We always give the original form of levothyroxin.
I hope it answers to your question. Do not hesitate if you need assistance again.

This doesn’t answer the question. Synthroid is the brand name for levothyroxine in the United States and is on the market in the US. Why would a physician prescribe the brand name Synthroid vs the generic levothyroxine?

The generic version of Synthroid is not on the market in Canada.
If the levothyroxin that you talk about is the generic form of Synthroid in United States, I don’t see any particular reason to prescribe the brand over the generic. The generic is the same thing at a lower cost, so clinically, it is not supposed to be different
