What is the best way to stop mirtazapine?

49-year-old woman2 years ago
I have been taking mirtazapine for the past 9 months. I was to stop taking the medication as I have a low heartbeat 42 per min when sleeping. I now feel better. I have been taking 7.5 mg every day. What is the best way to stop? My pharmacist seems to say that I can stop like that. Can it be dangerous?

Hello, thank you for your question!
It is difficult to contradict your pharmacist considering she possesses much more information. However, if it can reassure you, the dose of the medication can be halved to 3,5 for one to two weeks.
Hoping I've been helpful, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions

Thank You for your answer. I’ve started taking 3.75 mg 2 days ago. So far not so bad, just a small headache. Side effects are minimal. I slept like a baby (I have had sleeping issues for the past couple of weeks)

I am glad to hear it! Just keep in mind that stopping the medication is not a race in this case, don't hesitate to take it gradually, even considering 3.75 mg every two days for a short while if need be.
