I have been taking capecitabine 1000mg bid, 5 days on and 2 days off. Since I am being treated for metastatic cancer, this treatment will continue for as long as it is working. So far I have taken it for 2 months. Are there any side-effects that may arise over time?

Hi,
Since you've been taking capecitabine (Xeloda) for 2 months now, it is unusual that new side effects arise in the future. Perhaps, you could feel less energy with the cold weather ahead of us, catch a few colds and stomach flu during winter time.
At each cycle, your doctor order a blood count, liver and renal fonction tests. This is due to the fact that this particular tests could worsen for multiple reason in the next cycles. If so, your doctor will ajuste capecitabine to make sure you benefit from it for as long as we can.
Also, during winter time, the skin is prompt to be sensitive and dry, and that could trigger some side effets with capecitabine. Make sure to hydrate and protect your skin from the cold.
Feel free to discuss this topic with the oncology team for further information!
Have a great day,
