Hi, I have been taking the Evra contraceptive patch for a little over a year now. I never had any problems with it, it always worked well for me. I took Evra because every pill was a fail in my case, I was bleeding all the time and had really bad premenstrual symptoms. About a month ago, I started having really bad cramps and bleeding while having my patch on. It hasn’t stopped since.

**I have been taking the patch for over a year and everything always worked well for me with Evra. I had to change pills multiple times in the past because I was always bleeding at random moments in my cycle. But this never happened while I was on the patch until now. Since 3 weeks, I keep bleeding even if I have a patch on. I don’t know what I should do and if it is normal.

Hello Miss,
Do you have any other symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, fever, bleeding or other?
Are the symptoms every day or certain days?

Thank you for the information!
While Evra may cause or contribute to these symptoms, it is difficult to establish given that you have been taking it for a while.
With the information at hand, I think you have 2 options:
Either take a 1 to 2 week break from Evra to assess if this is the cause of your symptoms, or discuss this with your pharmacist so that he/she can adequately assess this situation and if necessary will suggest alternatives to your doctor, and he/she will also be able to ensure a tight follow-up with you.
Kind regards,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
