Is it true that if you were bitten by a tick, some pharmacies could prescribe an antibiotic on the spot?

We bring the tick and we have the antibiotic, if it is necessary, even if we do not see our doctor? If this is correct, could I know of any pharmacies (in the area) that adhere to this practice. This ends my concerns about tick bites. Thank you in advance.

Hello, yes it is possible for pharmacists to give an antibiotic as a preventive measure against Lyme disease when a tick bite occurs. This is done by issuing a "collective prescription" giving the right to all pharmacists in the Montérégie region (for example, since this is my sector) to give the antibiotic.
However, there are criteria to respect. Among other things, the person must be 8 years of age or older, and the injection must have been given in a high-risk area. Indeed, not all ticks are infectious. For example, a bite done in Vaudreuil, where my pharmacy is located, does not require an antibiotic. However, if a resident of Vaudreuil is bitten in St-Anicet, then I could give him the antibiotic.
So it's case by case.
But to answer your question, all pharmacies can do it according to the collective prescription of their region. You might want to check with your pharmacist to see if that is the case.
I hope this helps a little :)
Good evening,
Emmanuelle
