Can vomiting cause a dry cough? Other than hydration, cold food, are there any other measures that should be taken?

My 17 month old daughter has a stomach bug. She threw up 5 times 2 days ago and nothing else since. However, she has since started to have a dry cough. No fever, no diarrhea, less appetite and more difficult to sleep. She is still in a good mood.

she has no fever and no diarrhea. She eats less than usual and sleeps less well. She remains in a very good mood and does not seem to be in pain

The cough is worse when my daughter is lying down and sounds hollow.
that's the only time it bothers her I would say

Hello Caroline,
The most important thing in case of gastroenteritis in a child of this age is obviously hydration, it is not to be trivialized, especially considering the number of vomits made by this one.
Some over the counter syrups can be effective against dry cough. However, I recommend that you ask the pharmacist's advice in order to choose the right one for her.
Also, make it a priority to be in a position where her cough is not obstructed (sitting position as much as possible). This will facilitate the passage of air and her cough.
I hope to have answered your questions and remain available if needed.
Sincerely,
Sarah Gobeil, nurse.

Hello, yes she drinks water and milk well, it's more the appetite that is less for the moment. She wets her diapers well and the urine is very clear.
the cough seems to be getting better every day.
thank you
