What to do with Symbicort in an asthma exacerbation?

32-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, for a few weeks I have had an increase in my asthma symptoms. I am taking symbicort bid 1 inh. By increasing to 2 inh bid what would be my options for the treatment of my symptoms? I don't have COVID, I have little sputum. I have a constant dry cough, a dyspnea less controlled I seek my air more even at rest. I will try to make an online appointment for a medical consultation since it is not urgent, I wanted to have a faster alternative while waiting for the appointment.

Hello Mrs,
In order to gather enough information to better advise you, would it be possible to know how long you have been taking Symbicort, how long you have been experiencing a deterioration of your symptoms, if you are taking other medications and inhalers
and finally, what your pharmacist has told you about using Symbicort?
Thank you for your time!

Hello, I have been taking symbicort for a few years now, I am a nurse and I can take the pump. I don't take any other pumps. I have had a cold for a few weeks or even 2 months now. But since 1-2 weeks I have more difficulty to take my air

Thanks for the feedback!
Symbicort can be used as a maintenance and rescue medication, according to the SMART method: 2 inhalations twice a day, plus 2 inhalations if needed if coughing, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, for a maximum of 8 inhalations per 24-hour period
Is it possible that other allergens besides the common cold are contributing to your symptoms? If you think this is a possibility, the addition of an anti-histamine such as Aerius or Claritin may be considered, as well as nasal hygiene with saline solution such as Hydrasense or Sinus Rinse, if you have congestion and/or discharge or other symptoms such as itchy throat or nose, sneezing, etc.
