Hello,
Sexual activity can indeed contribute to the arrival of infections. Is a condom with spermicide used during sex? Spermicides increase the risk of infection. A change of condom (if used) could be attempted.
In addition, another possible cause would be a change in the pH of the vagina caused by the man's ejaculation which increases the risk of infection. At this point, the condom or withdrawal method could be a solution. Sometimes the man is a carrier of the bacteria. If there seems to be no other cause for the recurrence of the infection, it is important to talk to your doctor. Antibiotic treatment in your partner could be tried.
Many other factors not related to sex can also contribute to the development of bacterial vaginosis. Here are a few:
Do you use scented soap or douches (e.g. vagisil)? These products are irritating and can contribute to the development of infection. A mild soap such as Dove soap should be favored.
It is also important to avoid wearing clothes that are too tight. You should also change your tampon or sanitary napkin regularly.
Finally, if infections are very frequent and no clear cause is identified, your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic cream to use for a few months. This will help prevent the onset of bacterial vaginosis.
I hope this answers your question!
