I've had yeast vaginitis quite often for the past year. Do you recommend probiotics for vaginal flora?

I have tried different treatments: 1 oral capsule, cream, cream and vaginal capsule, treating the spouse with the cream. Currently I am trying the oral capsule every 3 days, 3 times. I would like to find a solution so that it doesn't come back.

Hello,
Thank you for your very pertinent question! 🙂
As for probiotics, no study seems to have demonstrated their effectiveness in preventing vaginitis. In fact, one study has demonstrated the effectiveness of probiotics (Probaclac: vaginal probiotic) in the prevention of bacterial vaginosis, a vaginal infection different from vaginitis. Patients with vaginitis were excluded from the study! In general, vaginal probiotics would have an impact on the vaginal flora and could help stabilize it. Since an imbalance in the vaginal flora can increase the risk of vaginitis, it is theoretically possible that probiotics could have some beneficial effect, but currently no studies have been published on this subject. If you don't have any allergies or contraindications to using the product, you could try it, but I can't guarantee the success of it! 😕
I would advise you instead to apply the following few tips that can help you reduce the recurrence of your vaginitis episodes:
  • Well wash your vulva daily with a mild soap (unscented ex: Cetaphil without fragrance). Therefore, avoid using intimate cleansers (ex: Vagisil) which are irritating and perfumed.
  • Avoid washing the inside of the vagina (it is self-cleaning!). Cleaning the inside of the vagina as well as using vaginal douches should be avoided, as they can be irritating and cause a disruption of the vaginal flora!
  • Promote wearing cotton underwear and avoid wearing clothes that are too tight (this will allow better breathing at this level)
If, in spite of everything, you are experiencing repeated episodes of vaginitis, I recommend that you discuss it with your doctor. Your doctor may be able to prescribe maintenance therapy to reduce your risk of recurrence.
Hopefully I have been able to help you,
