Are oral ulcers related to menstruation?

28-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, every month when I have my period, I have several mouth ulcers that form and remain painful. I take the birth control pill alyssena for 21 days. Is this normal and is there a way to fix it?

Hello, thank you for your question!
The situation you describe is not abnormal during menstruation. Several factors may be at play.
For now, the best solution is to maintain proper oral hygiene:
  • flossing at least 1 time a day regularly
  • Use a toothbrush with 'soft' bristles, as other types are more irritating to the gums and mucous membranes
  • If you use a mouthwash, I suggest you choose a product without alcohol
  • Avoid spicy or irritating foods (like tomato juice, fruit juice, etc.), if possible
I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
