Hello, for the past 5 days I have had a severe sore throat that is not getting any better. I saw a doctor who told me that it was viral (negative strep test) and that it would eventually pass. He advised me to take tylenols to reduce the pain.

Hello Mrs., in order to better understand your needs, would it be possible to obtain the following information?
Are you currently taking any other medications?
Do you have any known allergies, intolerances or contraindications?
Do you have any other health conditions for which you may or may not be taking medication?
Are you pregnant or trying to become pregnant?
Thank you

Hello, I take syntroid and reactin on a regular basis. Currently, I am taking Valtrex for a fever blister.
I have hypothyroidism and urticaria, but it is under control.
I am allergic to penicillin. I am not pregnant or breastfeeding.
Thank you so much!

Thanks for the information!
Advil can help relieve the pain, even if you take it with food. Lozenges such as Halls or Fisherman's Friend can also help relieve local irritation in the throat.
Finally, I encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot, as you prefer.
I hope I've been helpful, and I'm available if you have any further questions!
