Big toe is painful, swollen and blue/purple I took Tylenol and put ice and heat, what else could I do? Hello, No, it's not due to an injury or a shock. Hello ma'am, sorry to read about your troubles! We do not recommend heat application if this is a new situation. Only ice, in a wet towel or bag, 15 minutes at a time, is recommended. Is it due to an injury, a shock?
