What should I do for my daughter who seems to have trouble breathing?

23-year-old woman2 years ago
My daughter of 1 year and 3 months has been breathing badly for several months and for a while now her nose has been getting worse (runny). I have been to the doctor several times and he has just prescribed pumps and allergy tests, I would like to know what other things I could do, such as a dehumidifier and air purifier, since she is in the basement.

Good morning, ma'am,
In addition to the prescribed inhalers, have you tried other measures such as taking anti-histamines and nasal hygiene for nose symptoms?

Yes, it does

Thanks for the feedback!
Nasal hygiene and taking an anti-histamine (Claritin, Reactin, Aerius...) are among the first treatments. Other non-pharmacological measures should also be considered such as avoiding keeping windows open especially in dry/windy weather, making sure clothes are changed after going out and washing hands. Avoid drying clothes outside.
If the air in your room is dry, a humidifier can be suggested to reduce airborne allergens.

All this is done
regular nasal shower

its pumps every morning & evening
dehumidifier

Thanks for the feedback!
I would like to qualify that a humidifier is suggested if the air is dry, not necessarily a 'purifier'.
If you don't notice any improvement (or if you notice a deterioration) 2 weeks after starting these measures and inhalers, I suggest that you consult again to reassess the situation, as a precaution.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
