I recently started taking Vyvanse instead of Ritalin and since then I have been having on/off periods and have sensitive teeth. Is this normal? Is my pill less effective?

I have been taking triquilar 21 continuously as a form of birth control since February 2013. I have been bleeding in the month of January, April, July and October. I was diagnosed with tdah in 2013 and I took ritalin and everything was fine but since February 7, 2017 I have been taking vyvanse 20mg. For the last month and a half I have had menstrual periods three times (each lasting between 4 and 6 days), my jaw hurts and my teeth are sensitive (no cavities). Is it possible that my vyvanse is having an impact on the effectiveness of my triquilar? Thank you

And if this is the case, would the contraceptive patch be more effective?

Hello Ms,
There is no possibility, according to current knowledge, that Vyvanse has an impact on the effectiveness of your Triquilar. However, you have described some worrying symptoms: 3 periods in a short period of time, jaw pain. For this reason, I advise you to consult a doctor as soon as possible. Moreover, I am not able to reassure you about the effectiveness of Triquilar. Perhaps your Triquilar is not effective at this time. After clarifying the problem with your doctor and if Triquilar is not an appropriate contraceptive for you, it will be possible to see if the contraceptive patch would be better.

Thank you very much for the answer at the moment my doctor is on holiday, can my pharmacist give me some advice for pain

Yes, certainly, and by describing the pain in person, it will be easier to determine if it is a risky symptom. If there is no risk, he can help you with over-the-counter analgesics.
