I burned my tongue and I have spots in my mouth, what can I do to stop the pain?

26-year-old woman2 years ago
I think I burned my tongue on Friday night and now on Tuesday there are lots of little white spots and I still have a burning sensation. I am having trouble eating. I also have two small white bumps on the side of my tongue that make it hard to swallow.

Hello Madam, I am sorry to read about your troubles!
If you have no contraindications (pregnancy, allergy, taking certain medications, your pharmacist can confirm this), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin and other brands) can help relieve the pain. It should be taken with food, but if this is not possible, a large glass of milk or yogurt should help reduce the risk of irritation.
There is also a paste available in pharmacies (without a prescription) called Orabase: it is a paste that you can apply to the painful area before meals to reduce contact with food and rubbing.
You should still notice a gradual improvement every day.
I hope I've been helpful, and if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
