I have a cough, especially when I go to sleep and I grumble and wonder what's wrong with me. I don't have any pain anywhere and I get a little mucus when I cough.

Good evening,
I would need more information to be able to tell you exactly what you have:
  • How long have you been coughing?
  • What color are your secretions?
  • Do you have a fever or other symptoms (nasal congestion, runny nose, etc.)?
In the meantime, I can suggest that you try one of the following products:
  • BENYLIN BRONCHAL COUGH: This one contains dextromethorphan (DM), a cough suppressant, and guaifenesin, an expectorant... so it helps calm your cough while clearing secretions. Benylin is an example, but there are syrups from other companies that include these same ingredients.
  • HELIXIA: This one contains an extract of ivy leaves that acts as an expectorant. This is a relatively new product that works quite well for many of my patients
  • CALMYLIN or DAMYLIN: A codeine based syrup, this one acts mainly as a cough suppressant and is considered stronger than the DM... However, it causes drowsiness and potentially addiction in the long run. This type of syrup should be requested from the pharmacist.
It is also recommended to DRINK LOTS OF WATER; this will hydrate your throat and liquefy the secretions. Contrary to popular belief, it is not the cough that is the problem, but rather the secretions that are stuck in your throat... Coughing is a body mechanism that tries to clear the secretions as best it can. By drinking a lot of water, you make the secretions more liquid and easier to clear, which will then reduce your cough.
I hope this sheds some light on the subject... I am waiting for your answers to the questions I asked you at the beginning of this message. In the meantime, if you have any other questions or need further clarification, please let me know and I will be happy to answer you.
Sincerely,
David Tan, pharmacist

To answer your questions
1. I have been coughing for 5 days
2.my secretions are transparent. (but it is rare that I manage to spit them out)
3. I just have nasal congestion when I lie down and when I get up, but I have no symptoms (but the first day I had a sore throat when I swallowed, but as soon as the cough started, the sore throat disappeared)
And for the syrup I bought myself exactly the syrup benylin maais for the night two days ago and for real it's really better since the cough diminishes. But my other question. I was wondering if it was a bronchitis?

Hello,
For the moment, I don't think we are dealing with bronchitis... Generally, bronchitis is manifested by fever, greenish secretions and/or persistence of symptoms beyond 10-14 days. Since your secretions are clear, it looks more like a simple cold or viral infection. If your overall condition is improving, it's a good sign. However, your cough may persist for several days or even weeks, as it is the body's reflex; the important thing is that the secretions are decreasing. As I mentioned earlier, the important thing is to stay well hydrated to keep the secretions as liquid as possible.
I hope this helps... If there is anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Sincerely,
David Tan, pharmacist
