After how long has a cough been going on for, would it be appropriate to see a doctor at that age?

Hi, my 14 month old boy has been coughing for a week, he had a fever last week but it hasn't gone away yet. He has had his share of viruses in the last 2 months (like all children!) but the cough never stayed that long. It keeps him awake and every time he coughs he cries.

Hi, ma'am,
Have you tried anything for the cough?
Does your child have other symptoms such as a runny or stuffy nose, even a little?
Thank you for your help!

We give him some honey before bedtime and a lot of water during the day but nothing more. We clean his nose with the Ste Justine method, he has a blocked nose that runs ++ since yesterday only.

Thanks for the information!!!
You did well with the nasal hygiene, I encourage it as often as necessary during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. It's a little uncomfortable but works great to keep secretions from running down the throat, which often causes coughing.
Continue to encourage her to drink according to her preferences as well. Often the cough is the last symptom to go away even weeks after the infectious episode has healed. You should notice a gradual improvement every day.
If the cough persists for more than 7 days without improvement, you should consult a doctor as a precaution. I will remain available if you have any further questions!
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
