I still have a lot of coughing with my pumps?

I went to see the doctor yesterday and he prescribed pumps because my lungs were slowing down a lot and since yesterday I've been taking them and I don't see any improvement. Is this normal? I have to take them for two weeks. I also cough a lot even though I take the pumps.
