I have a severe cough and I am 15 weeks pregnant, what should I do and when should I consult a doctor?

I have a very intense cough and I am 15 weeks pregnant. It has been 3 days now. The pharmacist in my area gave me a syrup for the evening only with cough suppressant and expectorant. Is there anything else I can do to help? And at what point should I consult? Thank you for your help!

Hello, thank you for your question!
Do you have any other symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose, even a little bit?

Yes, but it's pretty light! I only blow my nose a few times a day. Otherwise no other symptoms!

Thanks for the feedback!
Non-pharmacological measures would be the preferred ones:
Lozenges such as Fisherman's Friend are safe during pregnancy, and can help with localized throat relief. They can be taken as often as needed.
For nasal congestion and runny nose, nasal hygiene with a saline solution like Hydrasense or Sinus Rinse can be done as often as needed during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. This helps to reduce the mucus flow in the throat that often causes coughing. It's a little uncomfortable but works extremely well!
I hope I've been of some help to you, and if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

With pleasure!
As a precautionary measure, I am providing you with the following link, a self-assessment to see if you need to be tested for COVID-19, to leave nothing to chance and better protect yourself and your loved ones
