I have secretions in my throat, what should I do?

35-year-old woman2 years ago
I tested positive for Covid on October 17. I had several symptoms (cough, congestion, muscle aches, chills, headache, fatigue). However, I did not have a sore throat. This morning, I feel a little more "stuck" or more secretions in my throat and I just saw a white spot on a tonsil... is it related to the Covid or a strep? Thanks

Hello ma'am, sorry to read about your troubles!
At this point, it is impossible to determine the cause of this with certainty
The accumulation of secretions can cause irritation in the throat, especially in the morning. Unfortunately, the secretions may continue for several days after healing.
That being said, your symptoms could also be caused by another virus like the common cold
What I suggest for now is to take Tylenol and lozenges for the throat pain, and to drink lots of fluids, cold or hot depending on your preference
If you still have nasal congestion or a runny nose, even a little, nasal hygiene with a saline solution like Hydrasense or Sinus Rinse should be done as often as needed during the day
In most cases, symptoms improve after a few days.
If your symptoms persist for more than a week without improvement, you should consult a physician as a precaution.
I hope that I have been helpful to you and I am available if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
