Hello, ma'am, congratulations!
First of all, if you are currently taking any medication, prescribed or over the counter, talk to your pharmacist so that he/she can evaluate its safety for you
If you are not already doing so, I suggest taking a vitamin supplement containing at least 400 mcg of folic acid
make an appointment with your family doctor and check your CIUSSS website for details on how to access a gynecologist/obstetrician.
We hope this has been helpful and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us

My doctor had prescribed folic acid for me to take as we were in the process of conceiving. I didn't take these pills to let things go on their own. What is the benefit of taking them when you are pregnant?
Also, how can I know how long I've been pregnant if I can't see my doctor quickly?
When should I tell my family and friends? I am afraid of the 12 weeks but it will be hard to hide it
thank you

Thanks for the feedback!
Folic acid is extremely important for the proper development of the fetus. Folic acid deficiency is one of the causes of neural tube defects, so supplementation is strongly recommended for any woman wishing to become pregnant starting 3 months before attempting to conceive and for the entire duration of the pregnancy.
You can estimate the period of pregnancy with the first day of the last menstruation. The number of weeks since that first day is the estimated number of weeks of pregnancy for you. Otherwise, you will have to wait for the imaging tests to have a more precise idea.
As for discussing the pregnancy with family and friends, there are no recommendations, it is up to you to decide whether you want to announce the news or wait.
Sincerely,

Thanks for the feedback. So does that mean that for folic acid, it is recommended that I start taking this medication from now on?
Naji-tom Samaha · 2 years ago
Yes, if you have not taken it before, it is recommended to start it as soon as possible.

It's perfect. I'm going to start it today and try to contact my doctor tomorrow to start the steps for the follow-up
A huge thank you for your patience, your advice and your answers which are precious to me in this weekend of big questions
Have a good Sunday!
