I have had symptoms of cystitis and vaginal itching for over 2 months. I did a urine test and vaginal swab. What should I do?

I don't have any urinary tract infections or yeast infections with vaginitis. My doctor prescribed hydrocortisone cream to apply for my itching and I went for a pelvic ultrasound which revealed nothing. I am wondering if it could be my birth control pill that is causing me all this discomfort. Should I go see a gynecologist or ask my doctor to change my pill? I don't know what to do anymore, I'm starting to find it hard to endure this pain.

Hello Ma'am,
Why do you consider that this may be from your birth control pill? Have the symptoms been present since you have been taking it?

I have been taking Alesse 28 since I was 19 years old I had no problems until three months ago. I started having vaginal itching without infection then symptoms similar to a UTI and pelvic pain without cystitis. I went for a pelvic ultrasound and everything is fine too. I read that these symptoms could be side effects of the birth control pill. I have noticed that my symptoms are less bothersome when I finish my period week and it starts again two-three days after I start taking the pill again.

Okay, thank you for those details.
It might be tempting to take a 1-month break from the Alesse™ pill to see if the symptoms you describe could be caused by a disruption of your vaginal flora related to taking the pill. This is rare, but not impossible indeed.
During this month, condoms will be used during sex (if applicable).
If symptoms improve greatly without the pill, an estrogen-free alternative (e.g., Mirena™, Nuvaring™, etc.) will be attempted.

Perfect thanks for the advice! Because when I saw that no treatment was working and I had no infection (urinary and yeast infection) I went to look at the Alesse pamphlet to see the possible side effects and there was indeed vaginal irritation or infection as well as symptoms suggestive of cystitis.

Here we go! But it's still rare :)
Let's not take any chances though.
Good evening,
