Hello, I have been taking ferrous sulfate for 3 years because I am vegan and I work out a lot. I am out of pills and I would like to buy some more. Is it possible to buy it without a prescription? I would like to avoid having to make an appointment with the doctor, take a blood test etc. Thank you, Lucas

Hello, it is possible to obtain iron without a prescription by asking at the pharmacy counter, as it is a Schedule 2 medication, i.e. available without a prescription, but must be recorded in the patient's file. However, I still suggest that you do not neglect to follow up with your doctor, as blood tests are the only way to determine your iron stores (ferritin). You may no longer need a supplement; even though vegan food contains less iron and it is less well absorbed than animal iron, it still contains it in plant form and the supplements may have replenished your stores
