I had a copper IUD that was removed a few weeks ago because I seemed to have a reaction. I'm wondering if I should use Movisse. Can you help me?

I am looking for a new method of contraception. The doctor doesn't want to go to estrogen since I already had a migraine with aura. So I started Movisse... and I am losing my hair incredibly. My doctor suggests the Kyleena IUD. "Does Kyleena have less intense/less frequent effects on hair loss in the scientific literature? If not, are there any other options? A progestin-only pill with an antiandrogenic effect... is there such a thing? The Cerazette??? Thanks a lot!!!

Hello Ma'am,
Unfortunately, there is no pill that does not contain estrogenic derivatives and is characterized by an anti-androgenic effect. That said, using a progestin can "rebalance the hormones" so that a slight anti-androgenic effect occurs in your body.
To answer your question about the Kyleena IUD, I would need to know the reaction you had to Mirena.

Hello Mr. Chagnon,
Thank you for your response! I am really happy to find out about this quality service.
SVP, can you tell me, in this case, what is the lowest estrogen combination pill that also contains anti-androgenic progesterone?
What type of progestin could possibly create a mild anti-androgenic effect?
I have not tried the Mirena, only the Movisse and the Mona Lisa copper IUD. I had (and still have) inflammation and bruising always at the same time of my cycle (right after ovulation. We thought that it was perhaps an intolerance to copper since it coincided with the insertion of the IUD 18 months ago... We have to admit that the copper IUD was not the cause. I am on hold for a blood workup and hormonal workup.
In the meantime, we are thinking about a contraceptive that I want to be quick (as I stopped Movisse yesterday, the hair loss being too intense).
A form of birth control that wouldn't cause me to lose my hair as much (at the very least that might help. I have been known to have androgenic alopecia).
And when we find out more about the cause of my recurring pain, I'd love to fix that! (STI test, Pap test, all negative).
Thank you so much for your time and valuable expertise.
I hope you have a great day,

That really makes it fun!
In my opinion, given your history of auras, one would be better off focusing on progestin solutions.
In other words, one could continue Movisse™ if the only issue is hair loss, and add a non-contraceptive drug that has anti-androgenic activity.
I have in mind spironolactone. Indeed, it is not Movisse™ that causes hair loss, but most likely the fact that we are no longer blocking the body's (too much) androgen production.
Since you are having belly pain, I would tend to avoid IUDs until we get to the root of the cause.

Thank you so much! 🤗
I dare one last question:in your opinion, if I take Movisse religiously, is it effective enough that I don't have to worry about it?
Thanks again.

Yes, really!
If you always take it at the same time of day (+/- 3 hours), this pill is effective.
Happy evening :)
