Good evening ma'am,
Statins are not dangerous per se as far as joint health is concerned. But they can cause some people to have muscle pain that is sometimes so bad that they reduce their physical activities...which is very bad!
In the case of a person with muscle pain taking statins, it is common practice to temporarily stop taking them for a few weeks to see how the pain changes.
Of course, it is recommended to do this stop with the agreement of the pharmacist and the doctor, as one waits for an appropriate time to do so (e.g., not right after a cardiac arrest or a stroke).
Happy day,
Alexandre Chagnon, pharmacist
