What can I do for my coughing child before I see the doctor?

32-year-old womana year ago
5 year old boy has been coughing for 3 days, constantly at night. He complains of stomach pain due to repetitive coughing and sore throat. He is covid negative, and doesn't really have any other cold symptoms. Last night he had a little fever for the first time.

Hello ma'am, I'm sorry to read about his troubles!
I read that you are not reporting any other symptoms, but could you tell me if your child has a stuffy or runny nose, even a little?
Have you tried anything for this problem?
Is he taking any medication right now?

Hello, over the counter medication to relieve the cough but it doesn't help. He has a little runny nose

Thank you very much for the feedback!
Indeed, I do not recommend syrups for children as well as adults because they have not been proven to be more effective than drinking lots of liquids.
The source of the problem is often in the sinuses, which run down the back of the throat like a leaky faucet. Nasal hygiene with saline solution such as Hydrasense or Sinus Rinse is the best treatment for this. This can be done as often as needed during the day and at least 30 minutes before naps.
Encourage him to drink plenty of fluids according to his preferences. A teaspoon of honey can also help with relief.
I hope I have been helpful and I am available if you have any further questions!
