How to relieve itchy buttocks/anus caused by diarrhea following antibiotics?

31-year-old woman3 years ago
I am taking antibiotics for an infection in my perineum/anus following a tear after giving birth. The antibiotics give me diarrhea and since the beginning of the diarrhea I have had very red and irritated buttocks and anus. I was recommended to apply zinc paste to relieve it. I try to apply it on the inside of the buttocks but after a while the product is spread out to the edge of the anus, is it serious? Also, the relief is not optimal, is there another product that I could apply to relieve the itching more effectively? Thank you

Hello,
It is a very good solution to use zinc paste, it will prevent stool and urine from irritating the lesion more. If you have some on the edge of the anus, it's not serious at all, it even protects more
To relieve the itching, what comes to mind is the Anusol Plus product. This ointment is normally indicated for hemorrhoids. However, inside, there is also zinc and an anesthetic that relieves the itching and pain. This can be combined with the zinc pay that you are already using
Is the antibiotic treatment over at this point?

No it's a 10 day treatment that will end on Friday (February 19th).
Thank you I will try the other cream as well because the paste does not relieve the irritation for the moment
Do you think it is serious if a small amount is also on my infection...? (I have a small crack in my perineum) I try to avoid the area but the paste really spreads by itself once it gets wet

It's not a big deal if the cream spreads to the level of your infection. It can't make it worse and it can even protect it from irritants (like stool for example)
To reduce the diarrhea from your antibiotic, I also suggest BioK 25 billion probiotics. These are the most effective probiotics for treating antibiotic diarrhea.
It would surely help the healing of your lesion to have no more diarrhea.

Once the antibiotics are finished, will the lesion be able to heal on its own since the infection will be gone?
Thank you very much for your answer! For the probiotics I guess BioK is safe even if I am breastfeeding?

Once the antibiotic is finished, it is important to continue the application of zinc paste and, if necessary, Anusol Plus (if itching and redness are important) until healing. The goal is to facilitate healing
Bio K is safe to use while breastfeeding and I also suggest that you continue it for a few days after the antibiotic is finished. Diarrhea can sometimes persist for a few days after the antibiotic is finished.
