Given the situation, I'm trying to get an appointment with the doctor. Should I start a three-day canesten treatment anyway?

Last Thursday, I took a fluconazole pill because I was irritated and itchy after my period! It didn't seem to work. I took a spa on Saturday with my boyfriend and we realized that he had a fungus on his toes afterwards. Is it possible that my fungus didn't go away because of the spa? I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for 6 years, so the risk of STIs is very low. Could the fungus be transmitted through the wash and I could be reinfected? Since I am trying to get a doctor's appointment (without success at the moment) should I start a three day canesten treatment anyway?

Good morning, ma'am,
Have you had these same symptoms in the past?
Do you have any other symptoms right now such as unusual discharge or smell?

Yes, I have had several fungal infections in the past. I have exactly the same symptoms, mostly irritation and itching. There is no unusual smell and my discharge is white, but even after the fluconazole treatment, which I took last Thursday, I don't really see any improvement. I washed my sheets on Saturday and my skin started to itch right away. I think it might be because the fabric softener I put in my laundry (bed and underwear) irritates my skin. I also think that's why the fluconazole treatment didn't work. Could this be possible? That's why I'm thinking of doing a canesten treatment and rewash my underwear without softener.

At the moment I apply external clotrimazole cream which helps me a lot

Thanks for the feedback.
Usually, treatment with fluconazole is sufficient. Some patients will require longer treatment, but after medical evaluation to rule out other causes. If your symptoms persist even with clotrimazole after 3 days, you should not wait to see a doctor.
Sincerely,
