What to do about a wet cough?

67-year-old woman2 years ago
I am 65 years old. For 6 days I have had all the symptoms of hay fever. Repeated sneezing, watery eyes, itchy throat and palate. I have mucus from the sinuses in the back of my throat. For the last 5 days I have had a hacking cough with clear or pale yellow mucus. I do not cough at night. I rinse my sinuses 5 to 6 times a day, and I have been taking flonase for 5 days twice a day. Should I take ivy syrup to stop my cough or let it eliminate the mucus by itself? Thank you

Hello, ma'am,
It is unlikely that the syrup will be effective in helping to reduce the cough, considering that it is often secretions that go down the sinuses into the throat
You did the right thing with nasal hygiene, I invite you to do it as often as necessary during the day, there is no maximum number of times
I also suggest if possible to avoid keeping the windows open especially in dry or windy weather
I also suggest using a humidifier in the bedroom if the air is very dry.
Finally, your symptoms can often be relieved with an anti-histamine such as Aerius or Claritin. I suggest that you check with your pharmacist to see if this type of product is safe for you.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist

Thank you, but this ivy syrup claims to eliminate the mucus accumulated in the respiratory tract, so I should not take it, it will not change anything?

You can try it if you want, but you can't expect it to be very effective. Secretions are the result of the release of histamine among other things, and this product does not act on this process.
