Should I get antibiotics if I have sinusitis?

32-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I have been sick since Monday. Sore throat to intense (over), chesty cough (almost over) and congestion (medium now but improved). Since noon I have an INTENSE pain in the sinuses of my cheeks, so much so that my face feels like it's going to explode and my upper teeth fall out. Red and hot cheeks. I can barely stand it. Can a pharmacist prescribe or do I need to consult?

Hello madam, thank you for your question, sorry to read about your troubles!
In order to better understand the situation and advise you, would it be possible to obtain the following information:
Do you have any other symptoms such as fever or other?
What have you tried for your symptoms?
Are you currently taking any other medications, do you have any allergies or contraindications for certain medications?
Are you pregnant or trying to become pregnant, or are you breastfeeding?
Thank you for your time!

Hi, no fever or other symptoms. I have tried cold and sinus pills and decongestant push pills for the nose
No allergies or contraindications. I take citalopram, aripiprazole and pantoprazole
I am not pregnant or breastfeeding.
Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the feedback!
I strongly suggest nasal hygiene with a saline solution (Hydrasense, Sinus Rinse and others), which can be done as often as needed during the day, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. cleansing' the nasal secretions is a bit unpleasant but works wonders for the symptoms.
On the other hand, I recommend not combining the cold and sinus pills with the decongestant nasal spray as they contain the same ingredients. The decongestant spray should not be used for more than 5 consecutive days
If your symptoms do not improve at all after 7 days, or get worse, you should consult a doctor so as not to delay the proper treatment.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
