What I can suggest for the future is to avoid shaving against the directions of the hair and to avoid going over the area multiple times as this can greatly irritate and increase the risk of ingrown hairs. I would otherwise be inclined to suggest an electric 'clipper' as this is less irritating.

After shaving, only apply a fragrance-free moisturizer such as Aveeno, Base Glaxal or similar. Do not apply deodorant it can irritate this sensitive area, especially after shaving. Also, avoid scented soaps: choose a fragrance-free one like Dove for example, and avoid rubbing the skin after showering: lightly pat and apply moisturizer quickly after.
