Can breast tenderness be related to my Mirena IUD?

Hello, I have, for about 2 years and a half, an important sensitivity in my breasts (pain when moving (ex: going down stairs, jumping, etc.) and sensitivity to touch). When this sensitivity is present, it can last between 1 and 4 consecutive weeks. The sensitivity then goes away and returns a few weeks later. I have not associated this sensitivity with my menstrual cycle (especially given that it can last for a few weeks). Since August 2015, I have had the Mirena IUD. Before that, I had been on the Alesse birth control pill for 10 years. When I talked to my doctor about it at my last annual appointment, she only told me it must be hormonal... I'm wondering if breast tenderness could be a side effect of the IUD; if the hormone released by the IUD could induce breast tenderness in some women. If not, could the natural production of hormones in some women cause this sensitivity? I have no lumps in my breasts or underarms. There is no history of breast problems in my family

Breast tenderness is a possible side effect of the Mirena (or Alesse for that matter). It usually tends to fade with time but may persist. Natural hormone production can also cause this sensitivity, although it is greatly reduced by the effect of your IUD.
