What can I do to help with this blocked ear sensation?

32-year-old woman2 years ago
I have been catching the respiratory virus from my daughter since last Friday. I had a sore throat for 3 days and now my symptoms are hoarse voice and blocked ear D ++. I feel like my ears are clogged like when we fly. Also, I feel fluid moving behind my eardrum and I have a slight pain on/off. I do sinus rinses without success, as I have no nasal congestion.

Hello Madam, I am sorry to read about your troubles!
In order to better advise you, would it be possible to know if you are taking other medications, are pregnant or are breastfeeding?
Thank you for your help!

I take Synthroid and since Saturday I take Buckleys syrup 2x a day
I am not pregnant and I am not breastfeeding my daughter anymore.

Thanks for the feedback!
I do not recommend syrup as its effectiveness has not been proven. I suggest, in addition to nasal hygiene, to use a decongestant nasal spray such as Dristan, Drixoral which can be used twice a day for no more than 3 to 5 days in a row
If you notice that Sinus Rinse is making the blocked ear sensation worse, stop. If you do not notice any improvement after 7 days or if the symptoms worsen, you should consult a physician as a precaution.
In the meantime, I will be available if you have any further questions!
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
