How to treat a sty?

38-year-old woman4 years ago
For a week I seem to have styes in both eyes. The eyelid of my left eye is very swollen and red. I put warm water compresses but it doesn't seem to get better. Yesterday I put Polysporin drops (eye infections). What should I do?

hello! Styes are not an infection, so you don't need to use Polysporin, especially since it causes or increases redness. Compresses are a very good idea but they should be warm (as warm as you can tolerate) and applied for at least 5-10 minutes twice a day. The blockage that caused the stye should open up with the heat, although it may take a few days, which is why it is important to be diligent.
