I am 24.5 weeks pregnant and on my 2nd consecutive treatment of Macrobid for a urinary tract infection. I have a side effect of frequent bowel movements and good intestinal cramps. What can I do about this?

Hello Ma'am, I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
The best way to decrease the magnitude of this possible side effect is to take Macrobid in the middle of a meal.
Alternatively, is this tolerable, or do you think it could compromise your ability to complete treatment?

Yes, that is what I have been doing since the very beginning of taking it with food. For now, I can continue but the cramps often wake me up at night. It's unpleasant but I guess if I want to get rid of my UTI, I have to continue despite that.

Thanks for the feedback!
If this is affecting your quality of life and you have several days of treatment left, I would advise consulting with your pharmacist/ne who can suggest alternatives to the prescriber to improve tolerance.
