We do not know how to treat it and if it is necessary to consult a doctor.

Hello, My 3 year old son has just finished a fever episode of a little more than 48 hours. It was controlled with Motrin for children every 8 hours. He has no other symptoms except for several mouth sores (inside of cheeks, sides of tongue and inside of lips). He has been coughing for 2 weeks following a cold. His general condition was as usual and he was hydrating well. However, we noticed a decrease in his appetite because it hurts him.

Hello ma'am,
Does he have any other symptoms like a runny or blocked nose right now?
Have you tried anything for this problem?

Hello,
no runny or blocked nose
We changed his toothpaste yesterday because I saw that an ingredient often used in toothpaste could cause lesions in the mouth

Thanks for the feedback!
Decreased appetite and drive is normal following an episode of illness
I suggest giving him acetaminophen (Tylenol, Tempra and other brands) instead of Motrin if he is eating less, to help with the pain of the mouth sores. Give plenty of fluids to drink according to his preferences.
This usually resolves itself after 7-10 days.
I hope this has been helpful, and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
