Is it normal to have blood in the stool of a 4 year old child, no blood on the toilet paper, just in the bottom of the toilet?

Hello
I just saw the same question that seems to have been answered by another pharmacist. I hope to answer about the same thing.
To answer your question about whether this is normal, no it is not normal. That said, it's probably not serious, so I don't think it requires a visit to the ER.
If it is red blood, this indicates that there is bleeding in the rectum (the last part of the intestine just before the anus). Most of the time, this is caused by constipation or hard stools that have caused an irritation or a crack in the rectal mucosa
If the child is not complaining of pain when passing stool, the solution is to soften the stool by giving more liquid to drink (ideally water) or to give Lax-A-Day which is available over the counter (it can be given to a child at a rate of 1g per kilo even though the label indicates for those over 18 years old; ask the pharmacist if needed).
Does the child's condition seem more serious or worry you?
