Hello, thank you for your question. Concerning your contraceptive, could you tell me the brand you use, if you have ever forgotten to take it and what week of your cycle you are currently in? Otherwise, the contraceptive pill is a very effective method for preventing pregnancy. When used properly, it prevents between 92 and 99.7% of pregnancies. What is important is to take it regularly and not to exceed a period without hormones (without pills or with the sugar pill) of more than 7 days. So, if you don't miss any pills, the oral contraceptive alone is very effective, and if you add an additional protection such as a condom, you further reduce the risk of pregnancy, although it is not totally zero. Technically with dual protection, the risk of pregnancy is very, very low and I wouldn't be concerned right away. However, if you have any doubts or concerns about your use of the contraceptive or even the condom, you may want to use emergency oral contraception (morning-after pill). It is most effective when taken as soon as possible but can take effect up to 3-5 days after intercourse. You can go directly to the nearest pharmacy and discuss treatment options with your pharmacist. We hope to have answered your question. Jean-Félix Côté, pharmacist
