Should I go back to the doctor because of the fever? Should I stop the antibiotic? Am I treating my infection ineffectively?

38-year-old woman2 years ago
For the past 4 weeks, I have had an acute sore throat followed by severe nasal congestion and sinus and ear pain. After 3.5 weeks, that is to say this Tuesday, I consulted a doctor who prescribed me an antibiotic Prox Amox 500 mg to treat a sinusitis. I take the capsules 3 times a day. However, since Wednesday evening, I have a fever which I treat with Acetaminophen. Tonight I was at 39 degrees (rectal, as my mouth thermometer does not work). It should be noted that I also take monthly Simponi injections to treat ankylosing spondylitis.

Good morning, ma'am,
If the fever is due to sinusitis, and it is bacterial, the antibiotic is usually given 72 hours before its effects can be appreciated.
Having said that, it is not impossible that a virus is involved, which can cause a fever at the beginning of the treatment.
On the other hand, considering that you are taking Simponi, it could decrease the strength of your immune system. Has your pharmacist given you any information on this subject, or has your doctor?

I invite you to contact your pharmacist directly for a consultation tailored to your needs.
