Can glycerin suppositories make the bowels "lazy"?

31-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, my baby is 2 1/2 months old (3 months on Oct. 26) he has difficulty with his bowel movements (sometimes 3 days without) he is irritable and cries a lot while wriggling. The pediatrician told me that I could give him a glycerin suppository (1/4 in his case) but I was wondering if it could create a little "addiction"?

Good morning, ma'am,
The use of glycerin suppositories should be done occasionally, unless there is regular medical or nursing follow-up. Below 7 days without a bowel movement, I usually don't worry, in the absence of other symptoms
At this age, I only recommend giving as much to drink as possible, even if it means giving less at a time but more often (to reduce the risk of regurgitation for example). I also recommend, often during the day, to do the following exercises when the child is on his back (It also helps to pass the time :P):
  • Massage the belly in a clockwise direction
  • Knee bends, as if to make his knees touch his chest
  • Doing bicycle movements with the legs.
I hope I've been helpful and I'm available if you have any other questions!
