I have an appointment with a hematologist oncologist. Is it always because of cancer that I am referred?

Abdominal scan swollen lymph nodes... abnormal blood test... stomach pain and extreme fatigue. Appointment in hematology oncology but I'm really stressed as to why I'm sent there... is it always for cancer?

Hello!
Referral to a specialist does not necessarily indicate the presence of a health problem, but a set of symptoms that could point to a diagnosis. It is then the specialist's responsibility to confirm the referring physician's suspicions or to rule them out
So, in your case, the referring physician notes that your picture could be indicative of a form of cancer and sends you to see a specialist who must first confirm if this is the case, and if so, what type it is. You should also know that not all cancers are equal, and if you should be diagnosed with this type of cancer, there are some that can be managed with oral medication that you can buy at the pharmacy, with a slightly tighter follow-up, but with a normal life at the end.
Good luck!
